Piano Lessons Policy 2019 – 2020

Contact Information:

-      Students can call me Ms. Beth

-      Please contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

Cost/Payment:

-      $12/half hour lesson

-      **New Policy – Payments will be due monthly

o   You can pay by cash or check

-      BOOKS: The initial book cost is about $25.  I usually buy the piano books online and you can reimburse me.  You’ll need new books as your student progresses, maybe every 6 – 8 months.

 Lessons:

-      Lessons will include theory, technique, playing by ear, and reading music.

-      Older students will also research genres and composers and work on analyzing different pieces of music.

-      At the beginning and end of the year, I would like students to explore their goals and what they want to get out of piano lessons (favorite songs, certain style, play for church, composing, play by ear, etc.).  Older students especially have a big say in their repertoire choices and need to keep communication open about what they want to play.

-      If you have any piano books at home, we can include them as well.

Missed Lessons: **New Policy**

-      If you cancel less than 24 hours before your lesson, you will forfeit your payment for that lesson

-      If you give notice 2 to 6 days cancellation before your lesson, you will forfeit 50% of your payment, the other half will be rolled into a credit for next month

-      If you give notice at least a week before your lesson, you will get full credit and it will roll into the next month.

-      If I have to cancel a lesson, your payment will roll over to the next month

Recital:

-      We will have 2 recitals, one in December and one in May/June.  This is typically held at my church. There is no cost for the recital day.  Details will come through email.

Weekly lesson:

-      Students should bring a notebook each week for me to record assignments.

-      **When you arrive for lessons, please enter the front door quietly as there might be lessons going on before you.  Please don’t knock (unless the door is locked).

-      Consistent daily practice is the only way to truly improve.  For beginners, they should practice each assigned song at least three times each.  Quantity of practice is not as important as daily quality of practice. However, as the music gets harder, practice time should increase.

Miscellaneous:

-      You are welcome to play with my children during your student’s lesson time, however, for parents of beginner students, I would prefer you to sit in on your child’s lesson so you can observe and help your child carry over the skills to the home setting.

-      Siblings are welcome to come to lessons, I have a swing-set out back and playroom in the basement (however parents are responsible for watching their other children during lessons)

-      If you know of other people looking for a piano teacher, please feel free to give them my name and contact info!
