Hark! The Herald Angels Sing was written by Charles Wesley in 1739. George Whitefield edited several words and lines in the lyrics to make the song more accessible. Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy wrote the tune in 1840.

Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”

Christ, by highest Heav’n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
