Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day Gift list – it’s only April, why am I sending out my gift list this early?  Well, Mother’s Day is going to be interesting this year – no brunches out, no get togethers with extended family.  I wanted to give you time to look through and shop these easy, musical, social distancing approved gift ideas for the moms in your life.

Jewelry

You can never go wrong with jewelry.  These earrings are hypoallergenic and there are LOTS of options.  I have the treble clef earrings and the Starry Night earrings.  My daughters absolutely love them, anytime they get to pick out earrings for me to wear, they always pick the Starry Night.  But maybe art isn’t your mom’s thing, Earrings By Emma has so many categories – music, science, animals, dangles, studs, I’m sure you will find something she will enjoy.   BONUS – Earrings By Emma is having an up to 50% off sale April 24th to 26th - get your Mother’s Day shopping done early and support a small business in the process.

Nature & Outdoors

If jewelry isn’t your mom’s thing, maybe she is into gardening, nature, or the great outdoors and right now she might really be missing the sounds of nature.  If so, Listen to the Birds, An Introduction to Classical Music is an excellent book to bring the sounds of wildife into her home along with beautiful artwork and interesting musical selections.  I LOVE this book which comes with a CD. There are 20 tracks all related to a type of bird or birds.  Each page has a story about the bird and it’s related music.  There is a listening guide and a composer biography for each song as well.    A few of my favorites are Birdsong bu Janequin, The Swan by Saint-Saens, and The Robin by Messiaen. Any nature loving, wildlife-enjoying, outdoorsy mom would love this book to enjoy by herself or to share with her family.

Time

Maybe the mom in your life is in need a break from the kids but is running out of things to keep them occupied.  An easy, guilt free, independent activity for kids to do while Mom puts her feet up (for a few minutes at least) – musical sticker worksheets.  Kids can become familiar with or review musical symbols while having fun with a NO MESS activity.

Give Mom the blessed gift of down time!

If your kids really like sticker worksheets and activities, I have them available for a wide variety of holidays. Click on the pictures below for the link.

Or for the full packet, activities for every season and holiday

Performance

This gift requires no money, just time and effort.  Perform a song for your mom on any instrument that you are learning.  It’s a great way to review your lesson pieces.  Or challenge yourself to learn a new song, maybe a favorite of your mom’s?  Find out her favorite song, composer, or style and try your best to replicate it. Perform a solo or in a group.  Have fun with it!    If you aren’t in the same home as your family member; then video tape yourself performing and post it on YouTube or Facebook for her to enjoy.   If you do post your video gift to your mom/grandma/etc., tag @BethSmithStudio so I can enjoy your performance and be inspired by your songs, ideas, and creativity.

Here is a video my girls and I created for my parents – it’s not a song, but a poem (which my mother loves)

But your video doesn’t have to be edited or full of multiple shots, just set up your camera and record a sweet and simple song - the mom in your life will love it, I promise.
