Scaling Walls A Note at a time - Holiday season fundraiser
One of my favorite Christmas movies is A Muppet Christmas Carol. Christmas time, grand musical numbers, Kermit the Frog - what’s not to love? One of my favorite scenes (besides anything with Gonzo and Rizzo) is when Bunson and Beaker arrive at Scrooge’s to raise money for charity. They end up kicked out into the snow after being yelled at by Scrooge. The scene is beautifully contrasted at the end of the movie when Scrooge’s heart is softened and he gives generously to the charity workers.
With that scene in mind, I would love to share about one of my favorite charities to donate to during the holiday season. SWAN - Scaling Walls a Note at a Time. This Lancaster County based non-profit organization was created in 2011 by Diano Voulo, my pastor’s wife and a professional violinist. SWAN’s mission is “to provide life-changing intervention for children whose parent(s) have a history of incarceration by mentoring them through the disciplines of music lessons and performance”.
As a musician, a music teacher, and a music parent, I see how much music benefits people’s lives. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to support an organization that gives children, who have 1 or both parents incarcerated, the opportunity to learn skills, discipline, and expression from music lessons.
If you would be interested in supporting or donating to SWAN, click on the picture below for Lancaster County’s Extraordinary Give - on November 22nd, every dollar donated, will be matched.
Please consider donating and giving the gift music to these children.
