A Lesson in Carols - O Come All Ye Faithful
A Lesson in Christmas Carols
During the holiday season, I love to put on my fireplace (the one on Netflix), make some hot cocoa, and sing Christmas carols with my family. But as a homeschooling mom, I’m always looking for ways to “sneak in” learning. Like sneaking in chopped up veggies to spaghetti sauce. The kids gobble it up, none the wiser to all the bonus nutrition. A lesson in Christmas Carols is a great way to combine the holiday season with some bonus learning. In this packet, we will learn the history of the Christmas Carol, listen to a variety of arrangements, play some musical related games (working on a variety of skills like beat, rhythm, dynamics, and tempo), and have fun with a variety of writing exercises. You and your kids will be having so much fun, you won’t even realize how much they are learning!
This packet of activities spans a wide age range – perfect for the homeschooling family and for families off from school on Christmas break.
Pre-K – K: coloring pages, Do a Dot
Early Elementary: Draw what you Hear coloring page, word search
Upper Elementary: Mad Lib, reading comprehension
Middle & High School: Lyric content analysis, Compare and Contrast
Whole Family: listening to different arrangements, Rhythm Activity, Musical Games
O Come All Ye Faithful is one of my favorite Christmas hymns. I love singing it at the start of the Christmas season, beckoning us to enter into a season of worship. I love that it has an easily learnable refrain. There is something so beautiful about hearing your children belt out “O Come, Let Us Adore Him” at the top of their lungs. I also love all the arrangements of this song (I’m looking at you Pentatonix!)
I’ve created this packet to be used by families of all sizes and covering a wide variety of ages. There is something for the toddler up to the teenager. Solo activities and activities for the whole family. Please check out this packet by clicking on the picture below.
Bonus Activity - here is a link to my FAVORITE version of this song - turn it on, crank it up, and have a dance party!
