School vs. Learning - Flipping the Script - Encouragement for Parents

Are you feeling stressed out and overwhelmed at the thought of educating your child for the rest of the year? Overwhelmed by the amount of work being sent home, figuring out online learning, and creating a new work/school from home schedule? Anxious about delays or regression in your child’s schooling?

In this video, I want to give you a few simple thoughts and ideas to hopefully encourage and assure you.

To summarize,

1) Switch your mind set from “Have To” to “Get To”- for me, it’s “I get to have flexibility and freedom…”

2) Switch the word “school” with “learning”

3) Decide what values and goals you GET TO accomplish during this time.

4) Make your Goals - REASONABLE and INTERESTING (to you and your child) - have fun with this. School is not just a checklist of worksheets and problems, but books to read, recipes to cook, backyards to explore, museums to tour online. The resources out there for creative and engaging activities are ENDLESS - your child’s teacher, librarians, pinterest, youtube, fellow parents, homeschooling moms. Order a science kit from Walmart. Try the recipes of your favorite YouTube Chef. Join an Online Music/Dance class. Only pick activities that are fun for you and the kids - don’t make another chore. Also don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to fill every moment with “FUN FILLED LEARNING” - choose a reasonable amount and give your child time to play on their own.

5) Write Out Your Goals - if you want, put them in a pretty format and display them around your house.

6) Enjoy discovering and sharing Truth and Beauty with your child.
