Feast of Ideas Week 10 - Camille Saint-Saens
Camille Saint-Saens was born October 9th, 1835 in France. He demonstrated perfect pitch by the age of 3 and by age 10, had his first public concert. He was an excellent music student and church organist but as a teacher, he definitely ruffled some feathers. He liked to use (gasp) modern music to teach his piano students. His most famous piece, the Carnival of the Animals, was not allowed to be published until after his death. Saint-Saens was afraid that this comedic work would ruin his reputation as a composer. However, Carnival, was very well received and now is known as his most famous pieces.
