Composer Study - Claudio Monteverdi

Claudio Monteverdi

"The modern composer builds upon the foundation of truth."

Claudio Monteverdi (1567 – 1643) was an Italian composer and musician. His works bridge the Renaissance to the Baroque time period. His composing style moved from the Renaissance polyphonic tradition into the use of more "modern" harmonies, which paved the way into the Baroque time period. Monteverdi wrote secular music like the opera "L'Orfeo" and is often thought of as the father of musical theater. He also wrote sacred music like the Vespro della Beata Vergine.
