Mary Lou Williams (1910 - 1981) was an American composer during the Modern period. She was an amazing jazz composer and arranger, working with famous musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Duke Ellington. "The Lady Who Swings the Band" wrote the Zodiac Suite, Walkin' and Swingin, and Black Christ of the Andes.
