Composer Study - Charles Ives

Charles Ives

"Stand up and take your dissonance like a man."

Charles Ives (1874 - 1954) was an American composer from the Modern era. Ives music was unconventional, using dissonant sounds and polyphonic melody lines. His music didn't become popular until he stopped writing, though he never pursued fame or wealth. When he won the Pulitzer Prize for his Third Symphony, he gave the prize money away!
